How the Wood is Prepared

The above images are before and after shots. There are three steps to converting these beams into mantels.

  1. The beams are brushed with a fine-wire brush. This removes all dirt and really brings out the wood grain. It also helps to remove small splinters.

  2. The beams are then visually inspected to find what the wire-brush has revealed. Imperfections will then be fixed such as sharp edges. The wood is also checked for sound or rot. If we are not satisfied with he wood the whole piece will be discarded if necessary. It is not in any ones interest to ship questionable wood. we take pride in our workmanship.

  3. After the customer chooses a finish (from one of the 12 samples or from one of their own particular preferences), the finish is applied as per manufactures recommendation. It is then allowed to dry and cure, package and ship.
